We have been playing around with how we might best share our work with each other (documents, etc.) and discuss it. The problem is that Emails make it difficult to manage and organize and most discussion groups scare people away because they have to "join" and set something up.
I would like to propose we consider using a working blog. I have set up this one for an example. It currently has the INITIAL VISION STATEMENT posted as an example. (Below this one.) Like that statement, each item we post will have a menu item on the side. It also can be connected to more than one menu item. New items will be at the top of the page for everyone to see.
*Like any web page anyone can access it without signing up for anything.
*To discuss the item/document people can simply click the "DISCUSSION / COMMENT HERE!" link on the bottom of the post and then share their thoughts.
*I have set it up so there is moderation before the comment is posted but if we did not think people would abuse it we could do without that part and the comments would go right on.
*We can still put documents on Google documents so they can be additionally accessed and modified by any of us there, and that link can be found right on the blog with the post/document. Anyone not wanting to go that way can keep it simple and just use the comment feature.

I like the idea Paul! However, if someone wants to make a new "blog," will we all have access to do so?
ReplyDeleteI think the answer to your question is yes, but I am not fully sure what you mean by make another blog? We can have as many blogs as we want and do it so we all have access, etc. But one blog can hold and organize all our different stuff, not just one document. Does this answer your question?
ReplyDeleteOne more example: I, or anyone else, could have posted the question I asked in a post on the blog. (What do people think about using this blog for our discussion?) and then you would have simply commented there under "comment" and then I would have commented there in response, etc. and the discussion for that question would all be there for everyone to view and continue rather than us doing emails back and forth. (I just did that now so we have an example)
Let me know if this is at all what you were asking. We do need to just do it with one item to see what it does.
Also, anyone in the group can be emailed each time the blog is updated - one option
Paul, this is a great idea. I think each Task Force of the Green Committee should function some-what independently. Each person working on a task force may not have interest in the work of other task forces, so they should be able to find information about their group in an easy to remember place.
